The BFD was made for one thing… 10/10 CHOP for L83 engines! It just so happens to make a lot of power too. Texas Speed's “BFD" Chop Monster camshafts are engineered to give your engine the MOST SAVAGE CHOP humanly possible while delivering big power throughout the curve. Designed in conjunction with Hoonigan’s Zac Mertens, the BFD is the nastiest sounding cam you can stuff into your 5.3L L83 engine with the stock pistons. A 3400rpm+ Stall is Recommended.
Each Gen 5 L83 camshaft Texas Speed offers will require the use of a phaser limiter kit. The phaser limiter restricts the range of cam timing movement. This modification provides the necessary valve clearance for serious performance camshafts with added duration and tighter lobe separations.
NOTE: The L83 BFD camshaft requires a DOD/AFM lifter delete, and a 0* VVT Phaser lockout block is necessary to maintain proper piston to valve clearance.
Our kit options eliminate guesswork when choosing components for your installation:
- Camshaft Only: Includes only the Texas Speed L83 BFD Chop Monster Camshaft by itself (please remember a valve spring upgrade and a phaser limiter are necessary for installation).
- Camshaft with Spring Kit: Includes L83 BFD Camshaft, plus TSP LT1 Dual .660" Spring kit with Polished PAC springs, Titanium retainers, and Valve Seals with integrated Spring Seats (reuses your factory valve locks).
- Pushrod Upgrade: Highly recommended when installing an aftermarket camshaft and springs. Our Gen V pushrod kit includes beefy 3/8" diameter, 7.850" long chromoly pushrods (brand may vary based on availability).
- Phaser Limiter Option: Includes a 0-Degree Phaser limiter block (required size for the L83 BFD camshaft). We have made this option for people who already have a tool from previous camshaft installations.
- Phaser Limiter with Tool Kit Option: Includes 0-Degree Phaser Limiter block, plus the necessary tool kit required to install the phaser limiter.
